The art of listening is a foundation skill. Without this skill young people will not be able to engage with education, training or authority figures.

Motivation, values and respect
Motivation is a crucial concept and will underpin the desire to change. When we respect our values, and when our actions are in tune with our values we develop self-belief and a sense of purpose. |

Assertiveness
We can be assertive when we have self belief. Lack of self-belief leads to disrespectful behaviour - for example, being aggressive, manipulative or bullying. Being assertive and having needs met is a right. Behaving positively and respecting others is a responsibility.
